A sold out crowd at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool welcomed home star striker, Steven Gerrard for a testimonial match against Greek team Olympiakos.
Liverpool overcame the travelling Pireaus team – selected to recall the famous Champions League victory Gerrard inspired in 2004 – with goals from Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson.
Despite the loss, Olympiakos didn’t back down on their promise. The team played the game without a visitors charge, enabling Gerrard to pass on the more than £1 million to his charitable foundation that benefits under-privileged children.
Liverpool remains undefeated in more than five pre-season matches.
