Michael ‘Micky’ Lucas – a respected member of Queensland’s Greek community – has died following a collision with a truck last weekend.
The South Townsville grandfather was on his way to the Bellevue Hotel when he crashed making a U-Turn outside his home.
Daughter Christine Lucas said she and other members of the family arrived at the crash scene within minutes and watched as paramedics attempted to save the 82-year-old’s life.
“It’s been hard – we’re still in shock,” she told
“He was a very healthy man but he did have his operations. He had heart surgery and survived bowel cancer – he was a real fighter.
“He still mowed his own lawn and loved his gardening and would spoil his (grandchildren) and give them anything they wanted.
“He was a very generous and loving man and would have done anything for anybody … he was known by many in the community.”
The son of Greek parents who migrated to Townsville, Mr Lucas was an avid fisherman and forner wharf worker. He is survived by wife Maria, four children and seven grandchildren.
