State pensions were being paid to 2,260 deceased citizens for more than six months after their names had been deleted from the registers, said Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras this week.
A census carried out by the finance ministry has found that state pensions were being paid to 2,260 deceased citizens, amounting to more than 35m euros, the finance ministry said on Tuesday.

According to data presented by Alternate Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, pension payments were being made for more than six months after the pensioners had passed away and their names had been deleted from the registers.

21m of the 35m euros have been retrieved, while authorities are continuing their efforts to reclaim the remaining 14m.
