SBS will be hosting the SBS Election Exchange at Eaton Mall, Oakleigh from 4:00 pm on Friday 30 August.
The SBS Election Exchange is a series of community based events hosted by SBS’s six largest language programs across Sydney and Melbourne in the lead up to the 2013 Federal Election.
The SBS Election Exchange Oakleigh will be hosted by the SBS Greek program and Executive Producer Vasso Morali and Senior Producer Themis Kallos.
Each SBS Election Exchange event will involve a 2 hour panel discussion with community leaders, local representatives and federal election candidates from the major Australian political parties.
SBS Radio Content Manager, Mark Cummins said “We came up with the idea of the SBS Election Exchange as a way of facilitating a community discussion.
“Our aim is to go beyond the hype, the campaign tactics and polls – to instead bring the election and policies to a local level for our audiences and help them make sense of the policies, in an independent and informed way.
“The events will be a panel discussion between our SBS broadcasters, local representatives of all the major political parties as well as community members and community leaders from each area.
“We want to hear directly from the community as well. At each event, we will have a photo booth that we want individuals to use to tell us what is the biggest issue affecting them this election.
The SBS Election Exchange will engage with SBS Radio’s six largest language programs, which represent close to half of the SBS Radio audience. The programs hosting the Election Exchange events are Arabic, Cantonese, Greek, Italian, Mandarin and Vietnamese.
