Michalis Aslanis, 63, one of Greece’s most prominent fashion designers, has been found dead in his Athens apartment, after apparently taking his own life.
His death on Wednesday comes a week after Aslanis told a Greek newspaper that he had been “ruined” by close aides who allegedly stole large sums of money from him.

A police official said there was no initial indication of foul play in the designer’s death. He spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the country’s privacy rules.
His body was reportedly found by staff from his studio, which was housed in the same street in which he lived, Skoufa St in Kolonaki.

He was apparently found on his bedroom floor, with pills nearby.

Aslanis was the best known of the old guard of Greek fashion designers, whose reputations were mostly domestically based. He told the Espresso newspaper he had been defrauded by two aides whom he had entrusted with paying his tax and social security bills.
