Tony Abbott, leader of the Liberal Party, is the new Prime Minister of Australia.
In his victory speech, Mr Abbott said “the government of Australia has changed”.
Earlier tonight, Kevin Rudd, leader of the Labor Party not only conceded defeat but announced that he will not remain as leader of the ALP.
There are rumours that Anthony Albanese, deputy leader of the ALP, will become the leader of the ALP.
The ALPs vote was at lowest level in more than 100 years, said Mr Abbott.
In his speech, Mr Abbott said it is the “people of Australia who determine the government and Prime Ministership of this country.”
“This was someone who had a lot of the raw talent,” said NSW Liberal Senator Arthur Sinodinos of the new Prime Minister of Australia.
