A new advisory board has been set up to oversee the Contemporary Greek Cultural Centre that will be featured in the new building of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria (GOCMV). Some of Melbourne’s big players in the arts will be working towards an inclusive centre promoting contemporary Greek Culture.

Max Delaney, senior curator National Gallery of Victoria; Professor Joy Demousi, University of Melbourne, Vas Katos, independent consultant in marketing; and Marie Velonaki, artist and academic at University of NSW are the new names to the advisory board set to bring value to contemporary Greek art and culture.

The advisory board is made up of Professor Nikos Papastergiadis and Olyvia Nikou SC as co-chairs, with Dr Jim Bossinakis, Costas Markos, Dr Marinis Pirpiris and Leonidas Vlahakis also on the board. Jorge Menidis has been appointed the inaugural director of the Contemporary Greek Cultural Centre

“Our objective is to nurture and showcase bold, contemporary, different and interesting cultural events which resonate with the evolving interests of 2nd and 3rd generation Greek Australians as well as to engage the broader community no matter what their individual ethnic heritage.” Ms Nikou tells Neos Kosmos.

She says that the intention of the new Advisory Board is to fascinate and stimulate the cultural interests of Philhellenes everywhere.”
