The rising cost of living is causing extra strain on our most vulnerable, says MP Jenny Mikakos.
The Shadow Minister for Seniors has accused the Napthine Government for avoiding it’s responsibilities with seniors and cutting funding where it’s needed most.
“Premier Napthine, just like Ted Baillieu, has left senior Victorians and those on fixed incomes off the list of government priorities,” Ms Mikakos said.
Ms Mikakos has accused the government of “making life harder” by seeking to privatise public aged care facilities, cutting state bill concessions for pensioners and cutting $75 million from the public sector residential aged care budget.
Recently during the Federal Election, many pensioners took to State Parliament to protest over being ignored by the government.
The group was made up of many ethnically diverse pensioners rallying for a rise in the fortnightly pension.
The pension rate is currently $808.40 for singles, and $1,218.80 for couples per fortnight.
