Fronditha Care is putting out a new call for volunteers to help out the elderly in our community.
With an aging population and minimal culturally and linguistically diverse services, the need for volunteers is even more in demand than ever before.
The biggest Greek nursing home provider for the Greek Australian community, Fronditha Care, is introducing a drive to get more volunteers to join their team and are open to flexible timetables and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.
Volunteer coordinator, Agnes Karazisis says there is a “myriad of things to do” for anyone interested in taking up a position.
“Volunteers can either help in our facilities with our elderly or they can visit them at home, to have a coffee with the elderly and socialization, or if they can bring in any particular skills, we have hairdressers that come in, masseurs that massage our residents’ hands,” she tells Neos Kosmos.
The volunteer program ensures that the residents have more options to provide a better quality of life. With the help they can get from volunteers, they can hold their independence longer and lead a normal and fulfilling retirement.
“It could be just a morning to visit someone that’s alone and is lonely, or it could be an afternoon in one of our planned activity groups within our facilities, or it could be taking someone to the shops to do their shopping or to do their banking,” Ms Karazisis says.
The self sacrifice of the volunteers at Fronditha is something that doesn’t go unnoticed too.
Bus drivers that take residents on outdoor excursions, activity assistants entertainers are just some of the selfless volunteers that ensure residents have a better quality of life in their older years.
The organization is known for taking very good care of its volunteers, constantly treating them to afternoon teas, Christmas lunches and certificates of servic and provides even more of an incentive to join the team.
Ms Karazisis felt compelled to take up the volunteer coordinator position after she was touched by the work of the volunteers for her sick father.
“Dealing with hospitals and doctors and all sorts of facilities, I became aware of the need for the elderly,” she says.
Now she wants people to take up the call, and help those who need our help the most.
For those wanting to take part, contact Agnes Karazisis during office hours on Monday to Wednesday on 03 95524126 or 0418414749.
