Victoria’s seniors from culturally diverse backgrounds are set to receive more help to be involved in the community, due to a new round of Victorian Coalition Government grants.

The third round of the Participation for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Seniors Grants Program opened yesterday, to help senior from CALD backgrounds avoid social isolation. The grants will allow them to become involved in existing or support the creation of new support networks and activities.

“Social inclusion is crucial in ensuring senior Victorians age well and evidence shows older people from CALD backgrounds can face a higher risk of social isolation,” said Minister for Ageing David Davis in a statement.

“That is why we are delivering $1.6 million for the CALD Seniors Grants Program to boost social participation opportunities for isolated older people from CALD backgrounds.” The Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV) is working with the Government to implement the grants program, providing assistance to applicants and recipients.

The Grants are open from Friday 1 November 2013 until Friday 28 February 2014. For grant guidelines, application form, and other information visit www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au.
