Steven Karakitsios, president of the South Eastern Centre for Sustainability, joined over 60,000 people all over Australia to take party in the national climate change rally. Karakitsios joined nearly 400 other supporters of the cause on the Frankston Foreshore to bring the Abbott Government accountable on the issue of climate change and to keep the carbon tax.
“They’ll have to take notice of what’s going on, they can’t turn a blind eye and continue with what they are doing,” Mr Karakitsios told Neos Kosmos about the current government’s lack of action on the issue of climate change.
He says that even though he doesn’t believe the Federal Government will implement any immediate changes, people are talking about their lack of action and want the government to be held accountable for this.
The National Day of Climate Action rally was organised by activist groups including GetUp!, the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and the Australian Conservation Foundation. Organisers say about 60,000 participated at the rallies, which were held in capital cities and more than 130 towns and regional centres last Sunday.
