Back home and into his pre-season, Cypriot tennis pro Marcos Baghdatis gave an extra helping hand for the charity Sophia Foundation for Children. The ‘I cook and I offer’ initiative helps primary school children get a nutritious meal every day for lunch and saves parents the cost and time of providing a meal. The foundation is equipped with a kitchen worth €14,000, which is staffed by a group of unemployed mothers from the area who work there as volunteers and whose children also attend the school.

Baghdatis used his racket hand to help out in the kitchen, while children at Sotiras’ third all-day primary school got some special tennis tips and signed tennis balls for the young starstruck students.

“The ‘I cook and I offer’ program is a very important initiative for the children of Cyprus and I am proud to be here to offer my support,” Baghdatis said. “I would like to congratulate the Sophia Foundation for Children as well as all the parents who contribute in their own way for this program that truly makes a difference.”
