Western Sydney Wanderers managed knock Brisbane Roar off the top of the ladder last week, thanks to a clean 1-0 defeat of Melbourne Victory at home. They will take former ladder leaders in what will be a grudge match tonight to open round seven.

Brisbane suffered a shock loss to the Newcastle Jets after the weather got the better of them, going down 2-1. In very wet conditions, the the Jets made use of bad passing and pushed themselves up to third position on the ladder, showing much more consistency than the popular clubs of last season.

They take on a struggling Melbourne Heart, languishing in last place on the ladder and suffering yet another loss, this time to Sydney FC at home. Heart coach John Aloisi will be coming under a lot of pressure at the moment, with a poor performance last year still haunting him and an abysmal start to this season. Since taking over in May 2012, Aloisi has led the Heart to just eight wins in 33 matches. They have had their home matches to thank for keeping them above water, but last week’s game proved their luck is running out.

Aloisi said the performance last week was “unacceptable” and has vowed his side would do everything in its power to change its fortunes.
Sydney FC on the other hand is getting back into the groove with Alessandro Del Peiro becoming their saving grace. He scored their first goal last week, and is
set to play in their match today against Wellington Phoenix.

Melbourne Victory had their first loss under new head coach Kevin Muscat, and up against a longtime rival, Adelaide United again, it’s going to be a hard round for the Victory. All the United Victory matches have been down to the wire, the last encounter ended in a 2-2 draw. Victory have the home advantage this time, and if Adelaide’s poor performance of late remains the same they could be dropping to second last on the ladder.
