Two opinion polls published underlined how finely balanced Greek politics is at the moment, as one survey showed SYRIZA ahead, while the other gave a narrow lead to New Democracy.
The Marc poll for the Ependitis newspaper put SYRIZA on 29.7 percent and New Democracy on 27.8 percent. Golden Dawn came in third on 8.8 percent, followed by Independent Greeks on 6.7 percent, the Communist Party on 6.6 percent, PASOK on 6.4 percent and Democratic Left on 5.8 percent.
Just over 15 percent of voters said they were undecided, while 6.5 percent said they would cast a blank ballot. A Metrisis poll for Parapolitika weekly, however, indicated that New Democracy is just ahead of SYRIZA.
It placed the conservatives on 21.5 percent, against 20.6 percent for SYRIZA. Golden Dawn was in third place with 6.1 percent, followed by the Communist Party with 4.9 percent, PASOK on 4.3 percent, Independent Greeks with 3.1 percent and Democratic Left on just 1.6 percent.
In contrast to the Marc poll, 30.6 percent of those questioned by Metrisis said they were undecided.
