Nea Kifissia produced a major upset in the A1 league as the promoted club defeated PAOK at home in what its own coach qualified as the biggest win in its history.

The northern Athens team in its maiden year in the top flight of Greek basketball has given its credentials since the start of the season and will certainly be no pushover in the battle to avoid relegation, but Sunday’s 95-86 win over Eurocup challenger PAOK was definitely remarkable and lifted Nea Kifissia to the 10th spot of the table.

While Panathinaikos and Olympiakos scored easy wins – the Greens defeating visiting Ikaros Halkidas 77-61 on Monday and the Reds thrashing host Panelefsiniakos 101-63 on Saturday – KAO Dramas and Trikala made their own mark over the weekend with their crucial triumphs.

KAOD edged out AGO Rethymnou 83-82 in a breathtaking game on Sunday at Drama, after Trikala saw off Apollon Patras 68-65 on Saturday, led by Patrick Ewing Junior who scored 15 points.

In other games, Aris consolidated itself at the sixth spot of the table with a 75-64 home win over Ilisiakos, and Panionios remained joint second with Olympiakos, one point behind leader Panathinaikos, after seeing off Kolossos Rhodes 73-66.
