Marietta Rialdi, famous artist and anti-conformist, renowned as one of the first to perform in plays with political context during the dictatorship in Greece, has passed away at the age of 74.
Having a triple identity – actress, writer and director – she created original provocative theatrical plays and directed classic works from Shakespeare and Lorca to Greek tragedies and contemporary ones.
Throughout her 30 year plus career she worked with many industry heavyweights and was always embodying the society element in her work. Marietta Rialdi established her own experimental theatre in 1963 and was a member of the Committee for the Greek Culture’s Projection Organisation. She is described by fellow artists as a complex personality.
