After 12 continuous losses, A-League club Melbourne Heart have sacked coach John Aloisi over the weekend.
It comes after the team suffered another demoralising 1-0 loss, this time at the hands of Wellington Phoenix.
Heart say former coach John van’t Schip will take over for the rest of this season to fill the former Socceroos absence.
Chairman Peter Sidwell described Aloisi as a gentleman, but said his time as coach had not worked at the Heart.
Sidwell said the whole club had to share in the responsibility for the terrible run of form that led to Aloisi’s sacking.
“We’ve all got blood on our hands,” he said.
Pressure had been mounting on Aloisi as the club continued to struggle in the opening half of the new season.
Following the Heart’s loss to the Phoenix on Friday night at AAMI Park, Aloisi claimed his team had played “scared” and dubbed the performance as “not good enough”, but denied suggestions he would resign from his post.
The club sits at the bottom of the A-League ladder, with 23 points separating them with the league leaders, Brisbane Roar.
Melbourne Heart’s next match is against defending A-League champions the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford next Sunday.
