The 150th anniversary of the birth of Greek/Alexandrian poet Constantine Cavafy will be celebrated with an event by Melbourne Poets Union, supported by the Immigration Museum, the Greek Australian Cultural League and Hellenic Writers Association of Australia.
Cavafy’s work has spread throughout the world, has been translated and is still being translated, into many languages. Poets and Cavafy lovers from diverse language backgrounds, including Greek, English, French, Italian, German and Dutch, will perform his poems.Poets will also be invited to read their own work in the Open Section.
Activities will include: introduction to Cavafy and his work; readings of Cavafy’s poetry in different languages; and Open Section, where poets read their own work.
Celebrating Cavafy will take place at the Immigration Museum, 400 Flinders Street, Melbourne on Sunday 27 October, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
