South Australian property company the Maras Group received a 2013 Christmas bonus last year – after being given the ‘Best Enterprise’ award by the Europe Business Assembly (EBA) at a prestigious awards ceremony in the UK.

The EBA international prize – conferred in the field of commercial and retail property development – was awarded for the Maras Group’s outstanding contribution to innovation and its success within the Australian property industry over many years.

Some 130 business leaders from 35 countries participated in the official reception and the Socrates Award ceremony in Oxford. The globe-trotting delegates also enjoyed a tour of the ancient venue for the presentation ceremony – Oxford University College.

Awards were presented to influential political and public figures, business champions and representatives of science and culture, for professional achievements and personal contributions to the intellectual development of modern society worldwide.

The aptly named Socrates Committee of the EBA awarded Maras Group’s Greek Australian Managing Director Steve Maras as ‘Manager of the Year’ medal for his outstanding contribution to the company and the broader business community.

“This is a great honor for our company but also another opportunity for us to spruik our great state of South Australia and bring further attention to Adelaide,” said Mr Maras.

“I am infinitely proud of what we do as an organization and the people that make up Maras Group. This award is very much a reward for all the hard work, commitment and effort of all our team.”

The EBA Best Enterprise award in Oxford caps off a momentous year for Maras Group on the international scene – having also taken out the European Society for Quality Research Best Practices Award in Austria.

Steve Maras’ father Theo founded Maras Group in Adelaide in 2006 after many years of pioneering property development work in SA as founding director of the Mancorp Group.

Maras Group have been widely tipped to invest millions of dollars in 2014 into transforming Port Adelaide’s struggling commercial district into a thriving retail centre.
