Kavala Chess Club member Christina Tsolakidou has been crowned world chess champion after the 13-year-old took out first place at the World Individual Championships in her age group in Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi.

The win came after a gruelling eleven matches, winning eight, drawing twice and losing just one, collecting nine points to nab the win.

She was crowned Greek Chess Champion for the first time in 2009, in the category for 10-year-old girls. In January 2012 she came second in the Pan Hellenic Junior Chess Championship. At last year’s World Championships in Maribor, she ranked 18th in the 12-year-old girls category.
