Australia captain Lucas Neill has returned to his former club Blackburn Rovers to train, as he desperately seeks another contract.

Neill is at the English Championship club on a training-only basis and isn’t seeking a playing return with his ex-club.

His agent Paddy Dominguez was not immediately available for comment, but Neill’s move indicates A-League clubs have rejected overtures to sign the
Socceroos stalwart for the rest of the Australian season.

The 35 year-old recently cited undisclosed family reasons for, just prior to his contract expiring last month, cutting short his stint with J-League club Omiya Ardija.

Elsewhere, rising star Tom Rogic is believed to be poised for a loan transfer from Scottish powerhouse Celtic to enhance his World Cup claims.

With the January transfer window open, both Australians are jostling to secure their status ahead of the Socceroos’ campaign for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in June.

Rogic, the precociously talented 21 year-old, has been struggling for game time at Celtic and been linked with his former A-League boss Graham Arnold, now coaching J.League club Vegalta Sendai.

Celtic overlooked Rogic for a bench position for their most recent game.

Australia coach Ange Postecoglou has stressed form and fitness will decide his squad for soccer’s showcase event and has told Neill to find a club by March or risk being overlooked for the World Cup.
