There has been a “slight improvement” in Michael Schumacher’s condition, but he still remains in a critical condition in hospital where he has been in a medically induced coma since the accident on December 29 in the French ski resort of Meribel.

Doctors treating Schumacher say he remains in a stable but critical condition but also said they would be giving no details of the treatment the 45-year-old is receiving in order to protect his right to privacy.

Meanwhile French prosecutors focused on determining why the accident happened and whether, the resort, the ski rental shop, excessive speed, or
Schumacher himself was at fault when he fell and slammed his head on a rock – The impact was so strong it split his helmet in two.

They said signs marking the edge of the ski-run which Schumacher skied off just before the accident were in line with legal requirements, his rented skis and bindings were in perfect condition and that he appeared in control of his speed.

Patrick Quincy, the prosecutor in charge of the probe was assisted in his investigation by the camera footage from Schumacher’s helmet cam at the time of the accident. The former world F1 champion appears to have skied on a partially covered rock, lost his balance and fallen on another rock further down, Quincy added.
