Unconfirmed reports have stated that Greece’s Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras may visit Australia next month.
Mr Stournaras is currently the presiding minister of The Council of Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Union, known as the ECOFIN Council.
The new role on the Greek minister’s agenda means that Stournaras will not just be the coordinator of the Council of Ministers in Brussels and Athens, but also means that he will travel around the world to represent the European Union in meetings of the G20.
In February, the sources reveal, he will visit Australia, while in April he will make his way to the United States.
During the Greek EU presidency, Stournaras will travel each week to Brussels, along with members of the economic team for the needs of the presidency.
During his speech at the official opening of the Hellenic presidency of the EU, held last Wednesday in Athens, Stournaras said the big issue for both the Greek presidency and him personally is the creation of a European fund for banks.
The final draft should be ready before the end of March, as it must submitted to the European Parliament before it is dissolved ahead of the May elections.
