Tens of thousands of Greek Australian’s celebrated Theofania in beaches and waters all over Australia.
In Melbourne, thousands of faithful gathered at Princes Pier, Port Melbourne where Michael Vakopoulos of Coburg beat over 50 men to receive the blessing. Present at the celebrations at the historic port that was many Greek migrants first view of Australia, was Victorian premier Denis Napthine, leader of the opposition Bill Shorten – along with his children, former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennet and State Labor MP Jenny Mikakos. The new Consul General of Greek in Melbourne Christina Simantiraki made her first official appearance in her new role.
At the Theofania celebrations, Victorian Minister for Multiculturalism, Nicolas Kotsiras, announced his retirement from politics.
