Fewer Aussies are putting away savings. More people are anxious about the job market according to ME Bank’s biannual Household Financial Comfort Report.
The number of households battling to save shot up two per cent to 51 per cent in the six months to December 2013.
Single parents had the most difficulty, while retirees and couples with children reported the highest level of comfort when it came to putting savings away.
Nearly half of the 1,500 participants have less than $5,000 in savings for an emergency and 11 per cent are spending more than they earn with another five per cent using equity in their home to make ends meet.
