On the occasion of 101 years since the liberation of Ioannina and Epirus from the Ottoman yoke in 1912-13, Epirotes of Melbourne and Victoria gathered last weekend to commemorate the anniversary. In the presence of the newly appointed Consul General of Greece in Melbourne H.E. Christina Simantiraki, presidents and committee members of the Epirotic associations, the service was conducted at the monastery Axion Esti in Northcote, followed by a wreath laying ceremony.
