It was the toughest match the Hawthorn Spartans have faced this season, but spectacularly they came out on top. With key players missing to attend player Nath Kous’ wedding, the team felt short staffed, but settling into the game in the second half meant all the difference for the team. They managed 84 to third on the ladder Mt Lilydale’s 46, showing a back to back premiership could be on the cards for the growing club.

Despite some great tackles, the team wasn’t the best on conversion rates up forward, sitting at just 43 per cent. They also failed to beat their 65 overlap run record last week, where they fell to just 29 runs.

Yet, still unbeaten in five rounds, their round six fixture will be a chance to get some higher margins and welcome back some strong players.
They’re playing against Masala again this Saturday at 11.40 am at Barry J Powell Reserve.
