Sydney Olympic has booked its ticket to the Westfield FFA Cup as well as the Waratah Cup Semi-Final with a stunning 4-2 victory over traditional rivals Sydney United 58 FC this week.
The Club’s win meant an automatic qualifying spot for the inaugural Cup, and might be facing Hyundai A-League opposition in the Westfield FFA Cup 2014 Round of 32.
Coming from a 2-2 draw, Olympic sealed their fate in the second half, with Michael Gaitatzis’ goal, giving Olympic a 3-2 advantage and then substitute Dimitri Hatzimouratis unleashed a screamer on his left foot to make it 4-2.
In a thrilling match, the proceedings started Olympic’s Go Shirai, pushing in a tricky goal at the first 20 minutes, while just eight minutes later the team doubled the score after substitute Harris Gaitatzis pushed a goal into the top corner.
United then jumped into action to counteract the frightening score and created two solid opportunities.
Young United striker, Alec Urosevsk had the crowd amazed when he managed to juggle the ball twice on his knee to eventually volley it into the bottom corner of the goal.
Two minutes later, buoyed by such a trick shot, United pushed through another goal with Urosevsk sending the keeper flying to the opposite end of the goal before the half time siren.
Olympic coach Grant Lee wasn’t impressed at the lack of defence his side was showing at this time, but was unabashedly happy with the team’s 4-2 result.
“I’m very happy. All four goals were quality, although we conceded two poor ones,” he said.
“The goals we conceded were naive, but we created five or six chances.
“You could see by the quality of team selections that we take this (the FFA Cup) seriously. We want to be part of something big like the FFA Cup.”
In the NPL, Sydney Olympic is currently sixth on the ladder.
