Just over a year after his first Melbourne concert on the occasion of the Lonsdale Street Festival, Greece’s pop legend Mihalis Hatzigiannis will be making his way to the Victorian capital again this October, for an unforgettable concert spectacular as the star of this year’s Melbourne Festival (10-26 October).

Performing with the full strength of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra behind him, Hatzigiannis is expected to bring his trademark mix of anthemic pop and traditional Greek music to the glorious surrounds of the Sidney Myer Music Bowl for one night only.

Explosive and epic, this special event, presented by Melbourne Festival and the Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture, promises an exceptional night of song from a master showman and musical phenomenon.

Mihalis Hatzigiannis was born in Nicosia, Cyprus and graduated from the Cyprus Music Academy (Royal College of London) with a degree in piano, guitar and music theory.

Starting out young, with his first major performances coming at Eurovision qualifiers when he was only 17 years old, he had three hit records, all reaching platinum status in Cyprus, and a performance at Eurovision by the time he was 20.

Sold out tours and platinum records followed right across the Greek-speaking world, along with a performance on behalf of Cyprus at a European Union induction ceremony and on behalf of Greece at the 2004 Olympics.

The recipient of countless awards, Hatzigiannis is now one of Europe’s true international superstars, and he has branched out into styles other than his original singer/songwriter format, hitting upon elements of dance and electronica, and collaborating with major Greek vocal stars.

Mihalis Hatzigiannis will perform at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Saturday 18 October. Gates open at 6.00 pm, for an 8.00 pm performance. Tickets are now on sale at Ticketmaster 136 100. For more information visit melbournefestival.com.au/mihalis
