The Australian Financial Review Magazine has put together a list featuring Australia’s wealthiest self-made citizens aged 40 years and under. The people on this list have not inherited their six or seven figure bank deposits. Determined to make it in the world of entrepreneurship and trade, they managed to put the stamp of success next to their names.
Mostly comprised by start-up founders, the list – apart from many engaging resumes – provides another instigation factor on whether university education or coming from a well-off background are necessary pre-requisites in order to hit the business jackpot. The men and women featured in the magazine’s 22-page spread have all managed to embark on a long shot fortune-making journey, reaching their destination.
Australian tech entrepreneurs Scott Farquhar and Mike Cannon-Brookes hit the first and second place of this year’s Young Rich with their $2.1 billion-dollar fortune. In the third and fourth place stands a shared $500 million worth hi-tech friendship of 30 years between Dave Greiner and Ben Richardson.
George Nakas, 39, has been shortlisted as well in 10th place. Thus, he is the wealthiest self-made Greek Australian. The local businessman debuts on the 12th Young Rich annual list, along with his friend and partner Gavin Fernandez, 40. The duo co-owned an energy company, LEDified Lighting Corp, which they sold last year, closing a million-dollar deal, that helped them start a new, even more promising empire. Arguably, Nakas has made his point clear, opting to drop a successful business to aim higher, albeit with risk. With a personal worth of $188 millon, our fellow Melburnian has made it to 10th place amongst 100 golden Aussies, while Nick Georgalis from Canberra, ranked 77th, with a $27 million fortune.
