International interpreting agency Language Experts has announced the publication of its first textbook dedicated to legal and court interpreters and translators in Australia.

Written with the intention of being used as a standardised textbook across the country, A Training Handbook for Legal and Court Interpreters in Australia was written by educator of interpreting and translation, Mary Vasilakakos.

“I consider this handbook to be a welcome contribution to the education and training of interpreters and translators to acquire professional development,” said Mr Eric Njoku, a practicing NAATI interpreter and translator.

The textbook is the first in a series of books for professional development and is a concise introduction to the skills of legal reasoning.

The book has been developed for readers to form a solid understanding of the fundamental and foundation professional principles, concepts, debates and current issues of the Australian legal setting and the interpreting industry as a whole.
