Acclaimed Greek architect Nonda Katsalidis’ newest development has just broken another record.

The Australia 108 skyscraper – which is expected to be completed in 2019 – will become the tallest residential building in the southern hemisphere, and now holds the record as the most expensive piece of skyscraper real estate.

The building’s penthouse has sold for a eye-watering $25 million, the most expensive single apartment ever sold in Australia.

The only piece of real estate to come close was in Sydney, where two combined apartments in Sydney sold for $25 million.

A businessman based in China, whose name has not been disclosed, bought the Australia 108 penthouse, which spreads across the whole of the 100th floor of the building.

The real estate agency that sold the penthouse, CBRE, said there was dozens of inquires about the penthouse, including three local buyers.
Architecture firm Fender Katsalidis put the 1,105 apartments of the Australia 108 building on sale in February, and has sold more than 1,000 of them.

The firm is also famous for building the current tallest building in Australia, the Eureka Tower, which hasn’t had as much luck selling its premium apartments.

Currently, the Grollo family – famous for their property development portfolio – have failed to offload the tower’s penthouse, which they hoped would fetch close to $18 million.

The previous highest recorded apartment sale in Melbourne was a $18.2 million apartment in the deluxe 150 East complex.
