After succumbing to elbow soreness in the French Open, Nick Kyrgios is hopeful of returning to winning ways when he contests the Topshelf Open in ‘s-Hertogenbosch this week.

In his French Open third round exit against Andy Murray, Kyrgios dropped his serve seven times and required a medical time-out during the 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 loss.

Kyrgios is baffled at his injury and admits he’s at a loss at what to do.

“I have done so much and it’s pretty heartbreaking going out there and have something like that holding you back,” Kyrgios said.

“I don’t know what I have to do at the moment. But I will do everything I can obviously to get ready for Wimbledon. That’s the next big one. I think that’s my best chance to win a grand slam.”

After the Topshelf Open, Kyrgios will contest the Queen’s before the London major starts on June 29.

He has been fielding advice from high places, with a Twitter message from famous Andre Agassi coach Nick Bollettieri giving him specifics to work on.

Bollettieri wrote to Kyrgios saying he has the potential to be “one of the top players in the world” but could use a bit of improvement in his backhand.

“It appears to me that you sometimes lack confidence in your backhand and, because of this, you become tentative under pressure,” he said.

“A lack of confidence causes you to think about previous points and too far ahead.

“I would recommend that you and your coach (Todd Larkham) begin working on building up your left hand, which does the work on the two-handed backhand.”
