Budget European airliner EasyJet has approached Greek tourist officials in an attempt to have the country’s tourism season extended, after it saw numbers to north African destinations drop as a result of increased terror attacks.

The company – founded by Athens born Cypriot Stelio Haji-Ioannou – wants the period to run March to November, compared to the current May to September months.

Flights to Tunisia have been scrapped after two separate terror attacks in the coastal town of Sousse and the Tunis’s Bardo National Museums killed dozens this year.

“There’s a lot more unrest in places like Egypt and North Africa than we’ve seen,” UK regional director Sophie Dekkers said.

“Where we probably would be piling on a lot more capacity, at the moment we’re being a bit more cautious because the consumer is being more cautious.”

It would like to see the extended period operate from 2016.
