A week after the drama of their canceled derby against arch rivals Olympiakos, Athens club Panathinaikos travel north to Thessaloniki tonight to take on Iraklis in the 12th round of the Greek Super League.
PAO, who remain second despite the cancelation, now await the decision of the Greek Football Federation on whether or not they will be docked points for what happened last week when kick-off was delayed before the game was eventually canceled as Panathinaikos fans threw flares onto the pitch.
Supporters invaded the pitch and fought with riot police inside the stadium and on the surrounding streets prior to and after the game was canceled by the referee.
The club considered quitting the league in protest, something it has threatened to do numerous time in the recent past, but decided against it.
Olympiakos did not have any fans at the ground, as away supporters are banned in the Greek top flight.
Panathinaikos must now regroup for a tough away fixture tonight against Iraklis in Thessaloniki.
Iraklis, are currently 13th with 11 points from 11 games, sitting just above the relegation spots, and will be desperate for a win in front of their own supporters, while PAO will be keen to add to their tally of 22 points.
Also on Saturday, fifth placed Panionios host Giannena, who are currently eighth, while third from bottom Atromitos face the league’s last placed team Panthrakikos.
On Sunday, fourth placed AEK, fresh off a 1-2 win against Panthrakikos in Komotini last week, host Panteloikos, who are 12th and coming into the game following a hard fought 0-0 draw away to PAOK last week.
Also on Sunday, Levadiakos play Xanthi and Platanias take on Veria before the match of the round between league leaders Olympiakos and third placed Asteras Tripolis.
Both sides go into the game following disappointing results in midweek European action. Olympiakos were thrashed 4-0 by German side Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, while Asteras lost 1-0 to Czech side Sparta Prague in the Europa League.
The two clubs will be looking to put that behind them as they clash at the Georgios Kairaskakis Stadium.
The action is completed on Monday when second last Kalloni host PAOK on the island of Lesbos.
PAOK, is currently sixth, outside the play-off positions despite pre-season optimism at the club, and will be hopeful of starting a good run of positive results to get them higher up the table before the new year.
