Following marathon discussions between the four candidates and party officials, New Democracy’s first voting round to elect a leader is likely to take place on the 20th instead of the 13th of December.
Vodafone has agreed to undertake the election process on the day with the second round of elections taking place on 10 January 2016.
Delays are causing frustration and raising tension within the conservative party, with fears of a schism between the four candidates and party supporters.
Furthermore, with Yannis Plakiotakis acting as provisional party leader, New Democracy is unable to effectively exercise its role in Parliament as the main opposition party.
