Oaxaca FilmFest in Mexico is passionately committed to providing audiences, filmmakers and screenwriters around the globe with a unique, multicultural cinematic experience.

Among the many international submissions, it was Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ film Suntan that won the Best Global Film award.

Suntan, shot entirely on the island of Antiparos, Greece, has also won the prize for Best International Feature Film at the 70th Edinburgh Film Festival.

The movie is Papadimitropoulos’ third feature film after Bank Bang and Wasted Youth. It revolves around Kostis (Makis Papadimitriou), a 42-year-old doctor who arrives on the small island to take over the local clinic. Kostis’ life is quite mundane, until he meets a group of young tourists and ends up falling in love with 19-year-old Anna (Elli Triggou).

“Such a cool thing to wake up and find out that somewhere at the other side of the world, some people decided you’ve filmed the best movie!” Papadimitropoulos posted on Facebook.

“Suntan won best global film in Oaxaca, Mexico! I always loved Mexican people! So bad I’m not there to celebrate with tequila and my Mexican buddy Christos!”
