As the FYROM naming dispute currently remains unresolved, many Greek citizens are planning to take to the streets yet again to protest against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia receiving a name Greece regards as irredentist.

A large number of northern Greeks is expected to gather tomorrow in Alexander the Great’s birthplace Pella and more than 10 other cities in the region, demanding the Greek government adopts a more firm stance on the naming issue.

With Athens and Skopje reportedly nearing a solution that will see FYROM join NATO and the European Union, the rally organisers are “in a state of alert” refusing to have Macedonia’s name compromised.

Two of the compound names reportedly under discussion are “New Macedonia” and “Northern Macedonia”; the Greek side rejects both.
