Konstantinos Barbarousis went on a rant during a no-confidence motion against the SYRIZA-ANEL government. The motion was brought against Greece’s leftist-led government by the  opposition over the deal reached with FYROM regarding the latter’s name.

Mr Barbarousis who is a lawmaker, when referring to the ex-Yugoslav republic potentially being named “Republic of North Macedonia” strayed from the Golden Dawn party line and started shouting.

“The dismemberment of Greece has begun,” Barbarousis said, sparking further turmoil amongst parliament members, Kathimerini reports.

He demanded the country’s military take over and “arrest Prime Minsiter Alexis Tsipras, his coalition partner Panos Kammenos and Greek President Propkopis Pavlopoulos, in order to prevent this treason”.

Ironically, an investigation is under way into whether Barbarousis’ comments constitute the crime of treason.

His fiery speech led to the ban of the Neo-Nazi party from further discussions on the naming issue and the no-confidence motion against the coalition government.

Golden Dawn, to avoid accusations of inciting violence ousted the MP from the party and now has 15 seats in the 300-seat Parliament House.
