Following an extension of its ‘Together is Better’ campaign final date, Q44 Theatre company is calling for help in raising much needed funds to support its ongoing work and consolidate a sustainable presence within Melbourne’s independent theatre scene.
Many will remember Q44’s creative team for last year’s acclaimed show titled NK: A Kazantzakian Montage, a world premiere honouring the life and work of Cretan writer and philosopher Nikos Kazantzakis 60 years after his passing, or their most recent production Ironbound featuring screen and stage actor Alex Tsitsopoulos as part of the cast in both plays.
In a statement, Q44 acknowledge the invaluable support of their audiences, and welcome their continued support.
“Over the four years Q44 has existed, we have established ourselves as one of Melbourne’s leading independent theatre companies, producing over 10 plays and developing a reputation for consistently excellent work. To date, we achieved this through the generosity of our audiences and patrons,” they said.
In March, the theatre company moved into the Sacred Heart Building at the Abbotsford Convent, where they managed to build a dynamic performance space from scratch. The team’s aspiration is to also make this space available to artists and groups outside the company in the near future, facilitating wider community engagement.
The fundraising campaign ‘Together is Better’, which Q44 set up together with the Australian Cultural Fund, aims to support the provision of technical equipment related to lighting, sound, rigging, curtaining and other elements of necessary infrastructure for future productions.
