It wasn’t the outcome Olympiacos fans were hoping for in Milan on Thursday, the Reds conceding three goals in just 10 minutes.
The Greek team was in the lead right up to the 70th minute, but ended up losing 3-1, a result which saw the team drop from the Europa League lead.
Following their loss to PAOK on Sunday, Olympiacos’ line-up had been given a shake up, a decision that appeared to be working in the team’s favour until the Italian side’s Patrick Cutrone and Hakan Calhanoglu were brought on.
Cutrone equalised for Milan on the 79th minute, while Calhanoglu passed to Gonzalo Higuain six minutes later who scored, raising the score in the host’s favour to 2-1.
It didn’t take long for Calhanoglu to assist Cutrone to seal the game.
But it was a totally different story for PAOK in Belarus, who put the pressure on from the get go, beating BATE 4-1.
The score was opened by Aleksandar Prijovic just over five minutes into the game. Winger Leo Jaba then went on to score twice in six minutes, on the 11th and 17th minute.
BATE’s substitute Maksim Skavysh managed a goal on the 61st minute. But it was too late, the black and whites driving the message home that it was their game, with Dimitris Pelkas taking the score up to 4-1 on the 73rd minute.
PAOK next faces Hungary’s Vidi, and Olympiacos will play Dudelange of Luxembourg.
