More than 20,000 people are expecting to visit Oakleigh’s Warrawee park this weekend, to take part at the annual Glendi, one of the most successful and popular Greek events in Melbourne’s calendar.
A free, two-day celebration of cultural diversity with an emphasis on Greek culture through music, performance and food, Glendi features an annual commemoration of the official Greek National ‘OXI’ Day, and the Patron Saints of Sts Anargiri.
Organized by the Greek Orthodox Community of Oakleigh & District and Oakleigh Grammar, Glendi attracts foodies from all around Melbourne, eager to have a taste of the vast array of Mediterranean and Greek food on offer.
The event also features free entertainment with music and dance performances catering for everyone – which makes it the perfect setting for a meeting of newly arrived migrants from Greece.
The group issued an open invitation for all members and friends who would like to meet and connect. The meeting will take place at Warrawee Park on Saturday 3 November at 6.45pm – the exact spot (probably near the main stage) will be announced either on the same day or the previous one, through a post on their popular Facebook page.
The group has been the point of reference for new migrants, who have established a network, exchanging information, placing ads, offering advice and valuable input regarding life in Australia.
