Mayor of Thessaloniki Giannis Boutaris will not be seeking to maintain his position in the upcoming municipal elections, a decision that he has made known to his associates.
The conversation is ongoing for how things will progress after Boutaris steps down as Mayor of the city and for his successor to find stable grounds to continue the work that needs to be done.
Boutaris is to meet with the city council in order to analyse the thought process behind his decision, which he credits to personal and not political reasoning.
Also on the agenda is the formation of a plan until the state elections take place in September. Both the Government party SYRIZA and the centre-leftist political party Kinima Allagis (a coalition led by PASOK), but also the centrist party To Potami, had shown their support towards Boutaris.
