Global market research company Euromonitor International has just released its Top 100 City Destinations 2018 report, ranking cities across the globe based on international tourist arrivals.
Three Greek cities have made it in the top 100, with Athens climbing up a spot since 2017. The Greek capital currently comes 49th with 5.13 million international arrivals in 2018.
Meanwhile, Heraklion, in Crete ranked 68th with 3.3 million international arrivals in 2018. Heraklion remains at the same position as 2017 even though arrivals saw a 8 per cent increase.
Rhodes, just made it in, placed 99th with 2.2 million international arrivals, up by 4,7 per cent compared to last year.
The world’s most visited cities are located in Asia, with with Hong Kong and Bangkok in the top two, and Singapore, Macau, Kuala Lumpur and Shenzhen also securing a spot in the top 10.
“Asia continues its rise, accounting for 41 out of the top 100 cities globally in 2018, in comparison to 37 cities in 2012, with cities in Japan and India standing out for their strong growth in international arrivals,” Euromonitor International Travel Research Consultant Wouter Geerts said.
