Former Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou is the new head coach of the Scottish Premier League giants Celtic, according to reports which state that the club has finalised terms.

Football website Football insider states the club has finished compensation talks with Postecoglou’s current J-League side Yokohama F Marinos this week and has agreed on a six-figure payout sum.

The agreement on a compensation fee would see Postecoglou leave Japan and move to Parkhead for the start of the 2021-2022 season.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Thursday that Postecoglou’s potential move to Celtic may be delayed due to coaching badges, with the governing body of European football not recognising Australian coaching credentials required to oversee top-tier professional clubs.

A UEFA spokesperson said Postecoglou doesn’t hold a UEFA Pro Licence and will only be given approval to take charge at Parkhead if granted an exemption.”A recognition of competence procedure has been initiated,” the spokesperson said.”In general terms, the duration of the whole process depends on the requesting party, meaning if they provide all required documents in due course – the process could take several weeks.”

UEFA require a manager in the top flight of a European league must hold A and B licences and at least embarked upon the most advanced course, the UEFA Pro licence.
