Established in 1961 by the existing Principal Poppy Drougas, the Taxiarches Greek School offers comprehensive Greek language and culture curriculum from Pre-Prep to VCE, providing opportunities for students to develop their potential through a wide range of educational experiences in the Greek language and culture in a caring and stimulating environment that fosters and develops excellence.
Testimony to this is the school’s Year 12 results with Taxiarches Greek School students ranked as some of the best in the state in Modern Greek with 100 per cent pass rate in this subject for the past 27 years.
The classes take place at the Mentone Girls’ Grammar School (11 Mentone Parade, Mentone) every Friday evening for High School, Primary school and prep and pre-prep students and every Saturday morning for Primary and Prep by certified educators.
Meanwhile, traditional Greek dancing is taught to all students from Grade 1 by a professional instructor as part of the School curriculum.

The Taxiarches Greek School is the oldest and most contemporary Greek school in the area with 57 years in the service of teaching Greek. Verified by the Ministry of Education and VCAA, it does this in the context of the broader Australian multicultural society and a sense of local, national as well as global community being fostered.
The School believes that an effective learning environment exists where there is a well-managed, caring and supportive environment where individual and group rights are recognised and respected and programs adapt to each student’s needs and interests.
Every classroom is equipped with computers and audiovisual mediums to introduce, extend and enhance the language abilities and cultural awareness of students through development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
This process is enhanced by the creation and attendance of cultural events and national celebrations promoting the development of sociocultural knowledge, in a caring and stimulating environment.
The school provides the parents regular reports through press releases and personal letters of phone calls with the teachers and the principal.
