Melbourne’s Greek Australian community took it upon itself this long weekend to keep up with Greek customs.

The Lemnian Brotherhood and Manasis’ Dance group put their best foot forward to bring a bit of the Hellenic carnival spirit to Victoria, by recreating Apokriatika dances and customs.

Esteemed Lemnian Brotherhood members dressed up in costumes and delved into some fun role-playing whilst audiences enjoyed koulouma and sarakosti delicacies in the spirit of Kathari Deftera.

Like every year, honouring tradition, members from the Manasis Dance Group, stormed Melbourne’s little Greece, Oakleigh’s Eaton Mall, to share the joy of Apokria for one last time with locals and punters.

The dancers pranced around in traditional costumes while a live music orchestra played some obscure and funny songs from different regions of Greece.

Many bystanders joined the group and danced along with them!
