New ferry lines linking Greece with Turkey will begin running as of 2 June 2019, following years of negotiations between the two governments.
As published on the new edition of the European Rail Timetable Aegean Seaways will commence ferry routes that will connect the port of Lavrio with Cesme.
The ferry, taking off 25 miles southeast of Athens will arrive to its destination, 55 miles west of Izmir in seven hours while free connecting bus rides will run in conjunction with the ferry line.
In Greece, there will be a designated bus linking Athens to Patras and then to Lavrio whereas in Turkey the bus will await in Cesme, making stops in Kusadasi and Bodrum.
Up until now, there had only been one ferry ride from Marmaras to Rhodes.
“[This is] a very welcome development …It would greatly expand horizons,” Chris Woodcock, editor of the European Rail Timetable said.
“It will be particularly useful for Interrail or Eurail ticket holders planning to include both Greece and Turkey in their itinerary.”
