In the lead up to the Federal election this month, 18 May, voters are being urged by the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) to assess and thoroughly scrutinise the multicultural policies and Action Strategies of the political parties.

With an ageing population, there are growing needs for the elderly, particularly those from culturally diverse backgrounds.

“There needs to be a greater focus on capacity building for culturally diverse communities to deliver aged care to meet the specific needs of communities, as well as improvement in the accessibility of aged care services, and a responsible age pension system,” said ECCV Chairperson, Cr Kris Pavlidis.

But aged care is just one of many concerns within the Greek community. The ECCV encourages all people to assess which representatives will take the best action for their needs.

“We are also encouraging members of Victoria’s multicultural communities to speak to their local candidates about what is most important for our culturally diverse community,” Cr Pavlidis said.
