British holidaymakers took to social media after a Rhodes restaurant charged them 82 euros for just eight soft drinks. Vikki Scott, on a break with four people, said she was stunned to be charged 14 euros for just one milkshake and felt that she was ‘ripped off’.

On Facebook, she wrote:

‘Went to The Gate restaurant in Old Rhodes Town for a drink! The bill for eight soft drinks was €82 – €14 for a milkshake!!

‘I confronted him and all he could say was ‘thank you lady’ people like him should not be allowed to rip off tourists.

‘On our way back he posed for the photo until he realised who I was then he followed me down the street telling me I couldn’t take his photo. Please share this especially in Rhodes sites to stop others getting ripped off!’

She shared a photo of the receipt, but is not the first social media user that has accused this particular business of overcharging tourists. The restaurant is rated as one star on TripAdvisor where 103 reviewers out of 161 were dissatisfied with the restaurant.

Responses to Ms Scott’s complaint were not all positive with a number of respondents warning that those who don’t read the menu only have themselves to blame.

Last month, a restaurant in Mykonos also was criticised for overcharging tourists.
